. Rhododendron Fungus:
Hi Penny!
Anybody know about rhododendrons?… Mine have a pretty nasty case of what I think is a fungus. Thoughts?
HI Tonya,
1. Here is a link to many PICTURES of problems with rhododendrons.
2. Here is the NC extension link: https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/rhododendron/
3. “Cut at least 1 inch into the healthy tissue to be sure that you have pruned away all of the fungus. Disinfect your pruning shears with rubbing alcohol and rinse them off with water in between each cut. Spray the rhododendron with Subdue or another fungicide labeled for the treatment of die-back in rhododendron”
4. Unfortunately, the fungus is in the soil and is not able to be eradicated.
5. You can try this easy possible solution:
“Make a typical baking soda spray by dissolving 1 teaspoon of baking soda into one quart of water. You can add a few drops of insecticidal soap or liquid soap to help the solution spread and stick to the leaves. Only use liquid soap, like Ivory, and not laundry detergent.Feb 3, 2020”
ALSO: You might be able to use propiconizol in granular form wearing gloves and scatter it under your shrubs which have fungus and then water in well.
I believe you can find it at lowe’s or home depot and is NORMALLY sold as a lawn fungicide.
Just a thought. Please do find out about how it affects people, birds, bees, animals and the earth as well.
Hope some of this info works for you.
